THE COWBOY'S BABY SURPRISE Page 15
He chuckled lightly at the thought of how he'd reacted the first time he'd seen that quality, nearly six years ago in a cheap motel on the outskirts of Houston. He remembered the pure, unadulterated panic he'd felt at the time. Now … now his body reacted with heat and his heart reacted with sweet achings.
Why hadn't he noticed before?
He moved to his wife's side and slipped an arm around her waist. "When were you planning on informing the Daddy?" he whispered.
Carley raised those sexy, pine-green eyes to his. "Tonight, Daddy. When I could get you alone."
The thrill that jolted through him every time she came this close nearly knocked him over. "Couldn't we…" He had to clear his throat. "How about coming upstairs with me right now. Doc can take the kids to the graduation."
Carley shook her head and bestowed one of her dreamy smiles on him. "Later. Carlos would be devastated if we didn't show up for his graduation. You're the reason he finished and decided to go on to veterinary school."
Witt leaned his forehead against hers and let the deep emotions wash between them. If he lived for a thousand years, he'd never tire of loving this woman and needing to keep her close. She was his life, his every reason for being alive.
With a laugh and a quick kiss, Carley began to bustle her whole brood out the door.
And as he helped her shoo kids into the van, Witt Davidson thanked the Lord for the real happiness that comes when loving a woman makes you a better man.
